Showcasing Fabulous Work!

We're instituting a new feature here on the Shimmerz blog... the Shimmerz Showcase! This will allow us to point the spotlight directly on the fabulous work we see out there. We love so many projects that we see, and it allows us to (a) share it with all of you and (b) bestow some well-deserved recognition on the creators of these fabulous projects.

Without further ado, here is our very first...
Today, we're honoring Janette Olen. It's quite obvious that she's enjoying her Shimmerz immensely! Check out her adorable Ski Bunny card, beautiful Christmas card and the yummy Thanksgiving card. I just can't resist showing you the shimmer she was able to capture here on this close-up of the Thanksgiving card. Please be sure to click on it to see it up-close and personal. It's gorgeous and downright Shimmzpirational! :)

Please send us an e-mail if you see projects out there that need to be nominated for our Shimmerz Showcase. Don't be shy... you can nominate yourself, too. We invite you to knock our socks off!

There are two more pieces of very time-sensitive news:
(1) Tuesday night is the very last day to submit your project postings for the Shimmerz Linkz drawing for this month. Deadline time is 11:59 PM Mountain Time.
(2) If you love our current Limited Edition colors (Sagebrush, Beeswax, and Rustic Red) please get them now to avoid disappointment. They will be gone soon.

Don't forget to check back on Wednesday to see who won some Shimmerz!

Fall Leaves That Shimmer!

It's getting to be that time when we dig out the hot apple cider and cozy up watching the leaves turn day by day. Well, even though the temperature here in Montana was close to 80 today, I thought I'd get in the spirit with the help of some fun stamps and a bit of Shimmerz!

I started by taking THIS stamp from Impression Obsession and stamping it on ivory cardstock with Momento Rich Brown ink. I knew that I wanted to try a really deep color, so I started by coloring my leaves first with watercolor pencils. When I was done, that's when I grabbed my Shimmerz and colored the leaves overtop with it. The result was a really deep color like I've never seen before! I used Royal Red, Rustic Red, Pumpkin, and Olive Green. When you look at my leaves straight on, you can't see the sparkle but turn it to the light... and BAM!

Here's a closeup....

To finish my card, I added a watercolor wash in places, antiqued the edges of my paper with some Antique Linen Distress Ink, some paper peircing and then my saying "To Everything There Is A Season" down the side of one of my mats with some Rich Brown Momento Ink. Add some ribbon, a button and you're done!

That's it for now! Hope your day Shimmerz!

A bouquet of Flowerz

Just for me!! I had a bit of a cold last week and I decided that I needed to treat myself to a bouquet of flowerz! I bet you can guess what I used! Shimmerz and Primas of course!

I had an inexpensive bunch of silk flowers ($3.00 and it had all of the greens and everything). I popped off the flowers from the stems and took the centers out and saved them. I then painted some white Prima flowers with Sunflower and Angel Wings Shimmerz. When they were dry, I put the flower centers from the silk flowers into the centers of the Prima paper flowers. The silk flower centers that I used had two pieces, the yellow center, which pokes perfectly through the top of the Prima flower, and then a bottom green piece that then slides onto the stem of the center from underneath to hold the flower in place. Some silk flowers do not have the two pieces; these still work, but you might have to use a touch of glue on the underside of the Prima to help hold it in place. Finally, I stuck the assembled flowers back onto the plastic stems, stuck them in a vase, tied a ribbon on the vase and Viola!! Shimmering flowers that will last a long time! I'm not normally a silk flower fan.....but I do love these ones!

And here's another little something I did with the components of some silk flowers...

My son made this clay pouch for me probably 8-9 years ago. It had some dried flowers in there that were just not so cute any more, so I decided to revamp the flowers and freshen it up a bit! I think it turned out pretty cute!

Shimmerz Rustic Branches

My good friend Heather, came out with her first stamp set for Papertrey Ink by her division called Pinefeather Press. I LOVE her style. This was a fun card to design.

The green on the side is the same Kraft cardstock painted with a wide paint brush using Celery Shimmerz Paint. I let it dry, then ran it through my Cuttlebug with one of the new embossing folders. The leaves are also all painted with Celery Shimmerz. I had a scrap piece left over, so I stamped Thankful on it, then cut it out with my Word Window Punch.

The recipe:

Stamps: Rustic Branches, by Pinefeather Press (Papertrey Ink).
Ink: Ranger Distress Black Soot, Craft Whisper White.
Paper: Kraft, Basic Black, Whisper White.
Other: Dimensionals, Rectangle Nesties, Cuttlebug, Embossing Borders, Janome Sew Mini, Shimmerz Celery Paint, Paint Brushes, Vintage Brads, Polka Dot Ribbon (May Arts), Scallop Edge Punch, Word Window Punch, Scor-pal.

Have a super day!! Hope it Shimmerz. :)

Oh wow... I think this is my favorite Sophie EVER! Of course I had to seize the moment to add pink and Shimmerz...right?

There is another reason this Sophie is my favorite. All the proceeds are being donated to the Childhood Brain Tumor Foundation in honor of one AMAZING little girl's fight with cancer. How awesome is that? You can read about Kelly Laude here. You can get this adorable stamp from eP here. Thanks to Kristi Ferro at Hanna Stamps and Joy and Daisy at eclectic Paperie. You are amazing and loving women and YOU ROCK!! I hope you can help..... Let's STAND UP TO CANCER!!

Here is the recipe for the card:

Stamps: Ballet Sophie (Hanna Stamps), Flower Power, Sketched Sentiments (Lizzie Anne Designs).
Paper: Kraft, Rose Red, Georgia Peach Designer Paper, Whisper White (Stampin'Up!).
Ink: Ranger Distress Soot Black, Copic Markers, Craft Whisper White.
Other: Shimmerz Magenta, Bubble Gum, Coffee, and Angel Wings Paint, Pastel Raspberry Liquid Pearls, Paint Brush, Dimensionals, Scallop Edge Punch, Gingham Pink and Creamy Caramel ribbon, Janome Sew Mini, Scor-pal, Cuttlebug With Love Embossing Border.

I wish you could see the shimmer with the paint. I added the Bubble Gum Pink to her tights, the Angel Wings to her shoes, the Magenta to just the bottom of her tu tu, and the Coffee to her antlers! Her tu tu is paper pieced from the Georgia Peach designer paper. I LOVE SHIMMERZ!!! Seriously... the hardest part about using this paint is deciding which colors to order!

Have a super weekend everyone!

Winnerz Every Month!

We've had more delightful entries this month, and may I just say that I'm very glad this is a random.org drawing rather than a contest? I don't know how we'd ever decide!

The winner of five jars of Shimmerz for the month of August is Lynda Benden. Her very pretty card features the Angel Wings and Coffee Shimmerz. She even painted the Prima flowers! And our winner of three jars of Shimmerz is Broni Holcombe. She actually had two Shimmerz projects on her winning blog post. She used Royal Red Shimmerz on the cardinal card and Buttercream Shimmerz on the floral card.

Thank you to everyone who sent in their submissions this month. Multiple submissions from a single artist are encouraged. In fact, both of our winners this month submitted multiple projects. It pays to increase your chances!

We're now accepting submissions for September. Here's how you can win.

Keep on shimmering!
