Can it really be the first of July? Already? While ushering in July, we also want to announce our new Guest Designer. But first we want to acknowledge our Guest Designer for the last 2 months, Christine Penaflor. Christine's work is so fantastic, and we are going to miss her greatly! Simple Blingz Sympathy

Hello everyone! Hope you are all having a great week. Today I wanted to share a simple sympathy card. Sympathy cards are always the hardest cards for me to make. I don't like to make them too plain but at the same time fancy and complicated isn't always the best choice either. For my card today I decided to go with a fairly simple layout and then add a beautiful Blingz flower. I painted 2 Prima flowers, 1 with Spiced Cider Blingz and the other with Under the Sea. I layered them and added a brad. Nothing too fancy but enough to give the sypathy card a beautiful, elegant look.
Hope you all have a great day!

Spritzed wall hanging

For this project I took a wooden door hanger and covered it with Barn Door Spritz. I colored the little stars with a Y15 copic marker, then gave them one coat of Tuscan Sun Spritz (my favorite of the Spritz colors) I've been on a little kick recently making the little ribbon flowers - you'll see a lot more of them in upcoming posts. The bottom layer of the flower was just made with gold ribbon. But, the middle layer is actually made from a cream colored ribbon that was spritzed with the Barn Door Spritz. I love that it coordinates perfectly with the spritzed wood! There are a few images above as I tried to capture one with all the sparkle of the Spritz showing, and one without so you can see the difference. I ended up using the Spritz on three different materials here... chipboard, wood, and ribbon. Such a versatile product! (by the way, click on an image above to get a bigger view and really see all the sparkle!!)

Three Sparkly Butterflies

Hi All, a butterfly card for you today and I've used K&Co papers painted with Shimmerz Sunflower and distressed with a seam ripper. The butterflies have been painted with Spiced Cider Blingz and Sunflower Shimmerz. I am so loving these colours, the Spiced Cider Blingz is a lovely coppery colour and sooo sparkly.

Have a good weekend everyone, we are finishing some DIY, thankfully we are almost there!

Shimmerz, A Frame & An Idea

Every so often, I will come up with an "I have an idea" moment. Occasionally, they do not turn out anything like what I intend *giggle*, and other times, I really like the outcome. This is one of those times. I have had a frame for the last 3 years, that I really did not what to do with it. Since it was a 3-D frame, I never could get the pictures to look right. So, I ended up taking a couple rub-on's and some Royal Red Shimmerz, and turned a frame into something more. I absolutely love the way this turned out, and I have had so many more ideas since.....Like Stacy said "Anything but the kitchen sink"!!! So, here are some pictures of the glass panes, the Shimmerz pane, and the finished project (the photo was a little difficult to take due to the number of glass panes). I hope everyone has a Great weekend!

Anything but the kitchen sink

I made this layout for a challenge I'm hosting at A Million Memories. It's called "Anything but the kitchen sink," and the challenge is to create a layout using non-scrapbooking items found in a kitchen.

I made the green and purple flowers out of coffee filters: I cut flower shapes out of coffee filters, then I sprayed them with Shimmerz and Spritz. Once dry, I layered all the petals with other found items from my kitchen (see below). I used Olive Branch Spritz and Green Olive and Key Lime Shimmerz on the green flowers, and I used Lilac Shimmerz on the purple flowers.

I hand-stitched around the edge of my layout with twine from my kitchen junk drawer, then I painted the twine with Gold Glimmer Shimmerz.

Other kitchen items I used:
*CHEESECLOTH -- I cut out flower shapes and added them to my coffee filter flowers.
*PLASTIC COFFEE CAN LID -- I punched flowers and cut out leaves from the plastic lids, then I colored the plastic with alcohol ink and Staz-On ink.
*INSTANT COFFEE -- I mixed a little instant coffee with gesso and painted around the edges of the photos.
*CARDBOARD COFFEE CUP JACKET/INSULATOR -- I punched a couple little butterflies out of the cardboard, then I added some Stickles and pearls.

I think I need to go have a cup of coffee now!

Thinking of you

I combined "Alva" with a background stamp from Stampin up. This background is nice and makes a fast card. :-) However after everything was layered down i just did not like the really dark black leaves. So i used some Shimmerz paint in "Candle Light" to lighten the leaves a bit up. A quick and simple way.
Stamps: Alva stitting

CS/DP: all Stampin up (all retiered)
Embellishments: Stampin up ribbons, Shimmerz paint (Check out what CraftCritique has to say about Shimmerz!

Andrea will receive $25.00 worth of Shimmerz and Blingz to have fun with.
This was a ton -o- fun. We will definately do another blog hop again. We have some really fun things planned this summer, so tell your friends and keep checking back.
Thanks so much for all the birthday wishes! And a special thank you to Danielle Wycough for organizing all this fun.

Thank You Cards and a Shimmerz Tip

After all the Shimmerz Birthday Blog Hop excitement, I decided to make some quick and easy thank you cards. You always need thank you cards after your birthday, right?

(All images by A Muse Art Stamps)

I made a big batch and they came together really quickly. Although their design is very simple, I still want the recipient to feel special. So, I highlighted the Zinnia centers with Angel Wings Shimmerz and three black pearls. By choosing one neutral pot of Shimmerz ie Angel Wings, I was able to speed up my production time, but still add that all important sparkle!

Now a quick tip:

I've been asked several times about mixing up Shimmerz because it can separate between uses. Here's what I do:

I keep a pot of toothpicks in my Shimmerz drawer. When I need to mix up my Shimmerz, I use one to stir it up. The sharp point scrapes along the bottom and sides, and mixes it up really well. Toothpicks are cheap, can go straight in the trash afterward and they don't waste any of your precious Shimmerz!

Thanks for stopping by the Shimmerz blog!

Birthday Cake

Are you having fun on the blog hop? I figured that since we are celebrating Shimmerz birthday I would show you another sparkly birthday card. I don't think you can have a birthday card without a little sparkle and shimmez is so great because it doesn't overpower it just adds some pop!! I didn't want to make this card girly since is is for my Nephew but it can still have some sparkle and be manly.

I stamped Flopsey in Momento Tuxedo Black ink and colored him with my Copics. I painted my cake with Mellow Yellow Blingz, I just love this sparkle!!

Hope you have a great day!! Thanks bunches for stopping by.

Tuesday Darez

Every Tuesday, a different member of the Design Team will challenge you to create something wonderful using Shimmerz, Blingz, or Spritz. If you'd like to participate and create something with us, great! Just leave your name & URL of the specific post or gallery picture here with Mr. Linky. Then, on the following Monday afternoon, we'll have a random drawing for the winner of a prize pack of goodies from Shimmering Products. How does that sound? We hope you'll join us whenever you can!

Today I thought I would challenge you to use some of the wood pieces that you may have lying around your craft area. I don't know about you, but I love the unfinished wood aisle at my craft store - there are always so many fun items there, and they're always so reasonable! I have a little secret, though - often times, I buy these items and then don't do anything with them; it isn't because I'm uninspired, but more of a case of impatient! See, I get in the groove, and hate waiting for things to dry. That's where Shimmerz comes in handy - it's quick drying time combined with beautiful coverage makes it the perfect medium to use with wood. Wait until you see what the team has come up with to inspire you!

Jami created this beautiful card with Plum Pudding Spritz - don't you love the way it covers this laser-cut wood piece?

Look at what Melissa did with this wooden paper clip - it's gorgeous! She used Hi Ho Silver and Under the Sea to make this great look.

Ali took a simple photo cube and transformed it into a piece that would look fantastic in any home by adding Eucalyptus Spritz:

OH! Check out this small chest of drawers that Kristine created! Isn't it amazing?

Kim Dellow got really creative with this coat rack - take a look at that cool masking! She used Terra Cotta and Eucalyptus to achieve this great look.

Heather used a wood frame to accent this lovely card - just look at that sparkle and rich color.

Linda always has a way of making stunning projects, and this gorgeous wedding book is no exception. The Shimmerz paints add just the right detail.

Danielle created a beautiful keepsake box that any little girl would cherish:

Here's a bird that is covered with two coats of Sapphire Spritz. I stamped with Memento Black ink right over the top to create the script look.

My last project is a small wooden box that just about every craft store has, I think! I simply painted on Lilac Shimmerz to create this fun look:

I hope all of these beautiful, creative projects inspire you to try your Shimmerz Products with wood craft items! You'll love the results! Don't forget to let us know where to look for your creation! Be well, Jenn Ellefson
