Legoland - A layout with Karine

Hi there,

Hope the end of the month finds you well.

I'm here today to share with you a layout I made with a color scheme that's completely outside of my comfort zone. I tend to work mostly with cold colors, greys and white. I went the opposite way with this one. I was inspired by the color of this gigantic giraffe that stands outside of Legoland near Boston.

My first step was to choose my base: an old Fancy Pants paper (Sunbeam, from the Happy Go Lucky collection). I entirely covered it with clear gesso. I then chose a Tim Holtz Stencil (Crocodile Layering) that reminded me of the dots on the giraffe's body. I applied modelling paste through the stencil. Once dry, I coloured it using Spritz in Tuscan Sun (of course!) and Treasure Hymn.

I stacked a few papers on top of my background.

I chose two Blue Fern Studio chipboards and covered them with gesso. Once the gesso was dry, I painted them with three Shimmerz colors: Sunflower, Marigold and Wed Wagon.

I did the same with an old giraffe chipboard.

A few touches of Shimmerz here and there, almost in Wed Wagon, to add a bit of red in the background. Here are a few close-ups for you to see the gorgeous color and shine.

Here is the final layout again.

Don't forget to mention my name when ordering, Stacey will include something free in your order! :)

Hope that it inspired you.

A Victorian Heart Placard

Hi Shimmerz Peeps,

It's Katie today sharing an altered Styrofoam heart together with a Victorian chipboard frame onto a 4" x 6" chipboard... Valentine is just round the corner, instead of making cards, I decided to do up a placard as a form of display art piece...

I started off by adhering scrap pieces of vintage dictionary papers onto the chipboard and began to build up the background using Spritz and Inkingz, with a little stenciling using Dazzelerz... To give an old gold vintage look, I altered the Victorian chipboard frame, and hearts using several gold shades with ruby red...

Hope such a little artwork can inspire you a little for this coming Valentine...

Cheers!!!

Precious Sunshine with Missy

Hey there, everyone!  Missy here with you today.  I don't know what it is about January, but it has me in the mood to scrap bright Summer photos!  If you remember my last layout, you know I love bright and bold colors.  This layout is full of them :)

I used papers from Webster's Pages and Echo Park to create this.  I used the gorgeous Tuscan Sun Spritz and a Crafter's Workshop stencil to create the sun rays in the background.  I used another stencil with the Patina Texturez to create those circles on either side of my photos.  It really gives amazing texture!  Such perfect name for it :)  Those chipboard frames are from Crate Paper, and I gessoed them before making them a gorgeous golden color, using Shimmerz (Sunny) and Inklinz (Miner Miner 49er).

These frames really shine...they have such a pretty sheen to them.  I used Shimmerz Tickle Me Turquoise to create the aqua watercolor here.

What I love about Shimmerz products is how may different shades you can get by mixing them and layering them together.  Once the Patina was dry, I added the Tickle Me Turquoise Shimmerz and Well Blue Me Down Coloringz...and they both can easily be used like watercolor.  And you can control the lightness and darkness by how much you water them down.  That beautiful pink tone is a  mix of the Razzle Dazzle Berry Vibez and Pretty in Pink Coloringz.

One more close up of the gorgeous Patina Texturez...it's such a fun product to use through a stencil!

I hope this gives you some inspiration today to go bold and bright even though it's cold outside!  Have fun with it :)

Thanks for stopping by, and have a great day!

Beautiful Pinks and Purples with Amy Prior

Hi everyone! Amy Prior back with you all again today, this time sharing a scrapbooking layout that I recently created for an Australian Scrapbooking Competition of course using lots of gorgeous Shimmerz paint products. The challenge was simply to use something out of the ordinary on the scrapbook layout, a non-scrapbooking item. I was baffled with this challenge as there really doesn't seem like much that we haven't added to our scrapbook stashes over the years and as I sat outside pondering in my garden, I realised the yard was covered in sticks left right and centre.

So after washing the sticks about 20 times in detergent etc to ensure there was no longer any dirt etc left on the sticks, I have painted them with gorgeous Shimmerz paint in various colours of pink, purple and black to match my chosen patterned papers for the layout.

I have added lots of various stamping to my white background cardstock using some Black Archival Ink which I have let dry before assing some dribbles of Shimmerz Inklingz and Shimmerz paints again in various shades of pink and purple to tie my layout together beautifully.

Finally I have painted my chipboard title using some Shimmerz Dazzlerz paint followed by some Shimmerz in black also to give a bit more texture.

Shimmerz Paint Products used for this layout include...
Shimmerz Inklingz in Beets Me, Pugnacious Purple, Pink-a-Boo & Imperial Amethyst,
Shimmerz in Sugar Plum, Royal Purple, Magenta, Pink & Coal,
Shimmerz Dazzlerz in Licorice Stix.

Thanks so much for stopping by and don't forget to keep an eye on the Shimmerz Facebook Page as something super exciting is happening 29th January!!!! So exciting!

Until next time, happy scrapping!
Amy Prior xx

Using a Stamping Block with Missy

Hey there, Shimmerz fans!  It's Missy here today with my very first blog post as a Design Team Member!  I'm thrilled to be here, and I'm excited to share my first project with you.

I absolutely LOVE rainbows, and I love creating backgrounds with the amazing colors in them.  There are tons of colors and textures to choose from in the Shimmerz family, and I used several of them here.  To create my background, I started with white cardstock and my small square acrylic stamping block.  I simply used it as a stamp.  It's really easy and you get a somewhat square yet messy watercolor effect.  Depending on the product you're using, either spray or spread it onto the block, turn it over and just press it down onto the paper.  I used Coloringz and Vibez to create most of my squares.  For an even cooler look, squirt two colors on at the same time!

I used a very old Crafter's Workshop stencil to create these blue lines, using a palette knife and Dazzlerz in Gummy Berry Blue.  Such great texture and color!  I am obsessed with machine stitching these days, so I added lots of that in as well as some American Crafts stickers and embellishments and this cute flair pin from A Flair for Buttons.

Isn't this orange color gorgeous?  That's the Mandarin Mai Tai Coloringz.  I love the look of the black stamps on top of it and the tangled thread under the photo.  Black always pops so nicely against bright colors.

Here's a close up shot of a random mix of patterned paper, washi tapes, stitching, brads, thread and lots of liquid color...that lovely green color is Hermit the Frog Vibez :)

And finally, here's a shot of the top left of the photo.  Gorgeous yellow (No Yoking Coloringz) blending with the Mandarin Mai Tai and Pretty in Pink Coloringz and a little bit of Magenta Shimmerz.  Such a gorgeous combo!

I hope this inspires you to give some of these awesome products and colors a try!  They blend so nicely together, and using the stamping block is a great way to get them to blend naturally.  Don't forget to mention my name when you place an order....you'll get some free product!  Woo Hoo!!

Thanks for stopping by, and have a GREAT day!

Products Used:
Dazzlerz - Gummy Berry Blue
Shimmerz - Magenta
Coloringz - Mandarin Mai Tai, No Yoking, Pretty in Pink

MORE Project Life Cards!

Hi everyone.

I am getting ready for starting my PL this year.  (yes I am already behind!  LOL  What ever!)

But I have fun making these cards.  super easy with Shimmerz Paints.  This time I used Inklingz.  Love the variations in colour I can get from one paint.  Have a look at the sweet cards I ended up with.  Really, really easy BTW.... Just Watercolour Paper (I used Canson 300gsm) Inklingz in a few colours and pens.  I used stencils in a couple which turned out great as well!

Heres the stash I played with this morning!

as you can see.....I enjoyed the process!!!!

It does not get easier than this!
Love it!!!
Inklings are AWESOME

See you again soon.
